If you were interested in becoming a DJ 15 years ago, you'd have to invest hundreds, if not thousands of dollars in a set of good quality record decks and a mixer. Today though, thanks to the wonders of technology and the internet, you can reproduce a complete DJ setup on your home PC for the grand total of absolutely nothing.
There's lots of music-making software out there, but Virtual DJ is one of the best mixing programs we've seen. It replicates the intricacies of controlling a pair of turntables to a tee. It works with MP3 files on your computer, and includes various effects, syncing, an automatic BPM analyser, and pitch and key adjustments.
If all this sounds too much like gobbledygook to you, we'd recommend loading up a couple of tracks and just playing around with them for an hour or two. It's great fun, honest!
